Dr. Niren Murthy is a professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Bioengineering in 2001, followed by postdoctoral research in Chemistry at UC Berkeley (2001–2003). He began his academic career at Georgia Tech in 2003 before returning to UC Berkeley in 2012. 

The Murthy Laboratory is an interdisciplinary group focused on developing new materials for drug delivery and molecular imaging. Notable work includes maltodextrin-based imaging agents for infectious disease diagnosis and hydrocyanine reagents for detecting radical oxidants.
