Yuebing Zheng was awarded seed funding through the University's Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors. The 'New Directions in Research' grants are one time payments that give faculty an opportunity to obtain proof-of-concept or pilot data for future, larger grants.

Dr. Zheng was one of eleven awardees across campus. His project, "Light-Transformed Microplastics for Mitigating Neurotoxicity: A Photocatalytic Strategy for Environmental Health," will examine whether light can be used to transform environmental pollutants as a way to reduce their toxicity.

“New Directions seed funding recognizes that innovation often requires venturing into uncharted territory, and we’re proud to support our researchers as they do just that,” Vice President for Research Fernanda Leite said.
