Doctoral Portfolio Program in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Spring 2012 Final Presentations
Best Presentation Awards
The Doctoral Portfolio Program in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology has recognized Katie Walker and Katheryne Wilson for giving the Best Presentations during the Spring 2012 Final Student Presentations. Katie presented her worked titled “Advances in Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence: Supramolecular Aggregates and Transparent Carbon Electrodes,” and Katheryne presented her work titled “Biomedical Photoacoustics Beyond Thermal Expansion: Photoacoustic nanoDroplets.” They each competed against ten other graduating students and both will receive cash awards of $500.
Katie’s research focuses on investigating energy transport in cyanine dye J-aggregates and their use as photoexcitable templates for nanostructure formation.
Katheryne’s research focuses on the development of a dual contrast agent for combined ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging, called Photoacoustic nanoDroplets.
Other student presentations included:
“Ultra-long range energy transfer in highly ordered conjugated polymer aggregates”
“The Effects of Aggregation on Electronic and Optical Properties of Oligothiophene Particles”
“Atomic Ensemble and Electronic Effects in Ag-Rich AgPd Nanoalloy Catalysts for Oxygen Reduction in Alkaline Media”
“Interactions of composite gold nanoparticles with cells and tissue: Implications in clinical translation for cancer imaging and therapy”
B. Reeja Jayan
“Using Microwaves to grow Crystalline Titanium Dioxide Films”
“Coalescence and Sintering in Metallic Nanoparticles: In-situ Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Study”
“Nanoamplifiers for Contrast and Sensitivity Enhanced Photoacoustic Molecular Imaging”
“Super-resolution optical imaging of SERS hot spots”
“Heat transport in two-dimensional nanostructures”
Each semester, graduating doctoral students enrolled in the Portfolio Program give presentations on their thesis work to their Portfolio Program peers. We congratulate all of our graduating Doctoral Portfolio Program students and wish them success in their future endeavors.
