Facility Overview
This facility is used for melt processing of polymers, primarily thermoplastics. It is mainly used by graduate students to compound or formulate materials that are subsequently molded into ASTM specimens for mechanical testing. In addition to graduate research, this facility is used for demonstrations for classes and other groups. Proper training must be obtained prior to use of any equipment in this laboratory.

Extruders and Accessories:
Killion single screw extruder, L/D = 30, D = 2.54 cm, with an intensive mixing head, a standard die and a pultrusion die.
Haake modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder, L/D = 10, D = 3.0 cm, with a K-tron feeder.
Baker-Perkins modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder.
TSE 35/17 D-A-H/C Brabender counter-rotating twin-screw extruder.

Two Lab-Line Squaroid Duo-Vac Ovens and two VL-300 Grieve vacuum ovens equipped with E2M2 Edwards high vacuum pumps and one VWR 1450 vacuum oven for drying hydrophilic polymers.
