About CNM
The Center for Nano- and Molecular Science and Technology at the University of Texas at Austin was established in 2000 to foster research and development and to provide education and training at the frontier of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
The CNM has the following primary missions:
- To educate students, faculty and others in nanoscience and nanotechnology research by providing focused learning opportunities, including hands-on instruction and specialized graduate certificate programs (i.e., the Doctoral Portfolio Program in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology).
- To facilitate training of students, faculty and others in their science efforts by serving as UT-Austin’s organized research unit for nanoscience and nanotechnology research, providing necessary infrastructure and specialized instrumentation.
- To guide groundbreaking, targeted research initiatives and programs in nanoscience and nanotechnology by fostering and supporting both internal and external collaborations for the pursuit of funding from federal and private sources.
The faculty affiliated with CNM all have appointments in a home department in either the Cockrell School of Engineering or the College of Natural Sciences. Some information about each affiliated faculty member is provided here; additional information about these faculty can be found on the web pages of their departments or research units.
The Texas Materials Institute administers:
The Materials Science and Engineering Graduate Program
Instrumentation and associated infrastructure necessary for modern materials research
Coordination of all aspects of interdisciplinary materials research and education among participating academic departments
